Maurer United Architects has developed a skatepark right beside the river Meuse in Maastricht. The design was developed in close consultation with the local skating community. The streets in Maastricht are mostly cobbled which means that skaters cannot practise the standard street skate tricks in the public areas of the city properly. The skatepark is made of concrete and uses tight lines and the large number of height differences and inclines are a challenge for the skaters. This expression of urban subculture combines harmoniously with a park-like environment outside the city. The facilities attract a lot of young visitors to this place beside the water.
