Since the early 90-ties, Maurer United Architects has been known for investigating and redefining the borders of the field of architecture, resulting into pioneering cross-over projects towards the fields of design and e-culture. During the past years, the office has also built up some experience concerning the re-activation of cultural heritage. All of this comes together in MUA's latest project, the development of a permanent media installation in the municipal caves of Valkenburg, a national heritage site. The caves are the result of marl mining that has been executed on this location for more than 2000 years.
